Coordination platform of EC IFAS with international development partners

The EC IFAS Coordination Platform with international development
partners was created to coordinate between development partners and
the governments of Central Asian countries in the implementation and
monitoring of project programs included in the Aral Sea Basin Program
(ASBP-4).

ASBP-4 is a regional program approved on 29 June 2021 by the decision
of the IFAS Board in order to implement joint actions and promising
programs to overcome the Aral Sea crisis and strengthen cooperation
through targeted actions at the national, regional, and international
levels to improve the water management, environmental and
socio-economic situation, sustainable development and improving the
well-being of people in the Aral Sea basin.

Within the framework of the Coordination Platform, the Executive
Committee of IFAS, with the support of the CAWEP Program of the World
Bank, regularly holds meetings in order to expand cooperation between
the countries of Central Asia, structural divisions of IFAS and
international development partners for mutual information about
ongoing activities and plans for the future, as well as ensuring
synergy in the joint implementation of projects and programs in the
region.

On 18 October 2021, in Dushanbe, the Executive Committee of IFAS held
the first Coordination meeting with international development
partners, following which a JOINT STATEMENT on the implementation of
ASBP-4 was adopted. This statement confirmed the readiness of the
parties to further deepen cooperation in the process of fulfilling the
tasks and priorities of ASBP-4 and ensured the creation of the
Coordination Platform of the EC IFAS and international development
partners for regular meetings to exchange information and discuss
existing issues on the implementation of projects in the region.

The second meeting of the Coordination Platform of the Executive
Committee of IFAS and international development partners was held on
25 January 2022 online. During the meeting, the results of the
analysis of the compliance of the projects planned and implemented by
development partners in the region with the thematic areas of ASBP-4,
as well as the work done to improve the organizational structure and
legal framework of IFAS were presented.

The third meeting of the Coordination Platform of the IFAS Executive
Committee with international development partners was held on 20
September 2022 in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The meeting was aimed at reviewing the implementation of ASBP-4,
informing about the ongoing activities and work plan of the EC IFAS on
cooperation with international development partners for 2023 in
resolving water and environmental issues and developing regional
cooperation, taking into account the extension of the chairmanship of
the Republic of Tajikistan in IFAS, as well as review of the progress
made in improving the organizational structure and legal framework of
IFAS.

During the meeting, further plans, new projects and initiatives of
international development partners in support of the implementation of
ASBP-4, as well as in support of the efforts of the countries of the
region taken to further strengthen regional cooperation, including
their possible assurances for inclusion in “Water Action Agenda” of
the UN 2023 Water Conference, which will be held in March in New York
City, co-chaired by Tajikistan and the Netherlands.

Central Asian countries, structural divisions of IFAS, donor
