Discussion of issues of mutual cooperation between the Executive Committee of IFAS and the World Bank Group

On 1 September 2022, in Stockholm, Sweden, within the framework of the World Water Week, a meeting was held between the Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda and the new Global Director for the World Bank Group’s Water Global Practice, Mr. Saroj Kumar Jha.

At the meeting, the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation between the Executive Committee of IFAS and the World Bank, including the issues of improving the organizational structure and contractual legal framework of IFAS, as well as promoting the implementation of the projects of the Action Program to Assist the Countries of the Aral Sea Basin (ASBP-4).

Mr. Rahimzoda provided information on the progress in improving the organizational structure and contractual legal framework of IFAS, supported by the World Bank’s CAWEP Program, 1 stage of which has already been completed, and which is being carried out in order to create an effective and sustainable institutional mechanism that can respond to new challenges and solve existing ecological and socio-economic problems and issues of integrated use and protection of the region’s water resources.

The Chairman also noted that in September of this year in the city of Tashkent of the Republic of Uzbekistan it is planned to hold a regular meeting of the Working Group on improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS, as well as a regular meeting of the IFAS Coordination Platform and emphasized the key role of the World Bank in this process.

Mr. Saroj Kumar Jha expressed the readiness of the World Bank Group to continue further cooperation and support to IFAS within the framework of the World Bank’s Central Asia Water and Energy Program (CAWEP).
