On 10 December 2023, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Water and Climate Coalition Leaders, took part as a panelist in the side event “Towards the One Water Summit”, which took place as part of COP 28 in Dubai, UAE.
The side event was organized by the Republic of Kazakhstan and the French Republic in the Water Pavilion and was aimed at presenting the goals and objectives of the One Water Summit, which will be held in September 2024 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, co-chaired by the Republic of Kazakhstan and the French Republic. The presidents of both countries also stated this during the high-level segment at COP28 on 1 December 2023.
During the event, issues of climate change, water availability in terms of quality and quantity, the impact of variability in the global hydrological cycle on human well-being, sustainable development and the economy, the environment, as well as ways to solve water problems and finance the water sector in the context of climate change were discussed.
The event was attended by Ms. Barbara Pompili, Special Envoy of the President of France for the One Water Summit, Ms. Zulfiya Suleimenova, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on International Environmental Cooperation, H.E. Christophe Bechoux, Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion of French Republic, Mr. Johannes Cullmann, Vice-Chairman of UN-Water and other senior officials.
