On 20 June 2023 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, an International Conference entitled “Financial and investment support of water resources rational use measures” was held in a hybrid format.
The conference was aimed at bringing together national, regional and international efforts in the field of assessment, financing and investment support for activities for the rational use of water resources in Central Asia.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda- Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS, made a welcoming speech. During his speech, he noted that financing and investment are key factors in solving problems in almost all sectors, and first of all in the water sector since due to many circumstances this important sector in the countries of Central Asia is not particularly attractive for investors.
In addition, he stressed that insufficient funding leads to the gradual deterioration of the main equipment, the drain of personnel, as well as the backlog in the development of the capacity of water management organizations.
At the end of his speech, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda informed all participants about the past International Conference “Central Asia: Towards Sustainable Future through Strong Regional Institution”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of IFAS, which was held on 6-7 June 2023 in Dushanbe and congratulated everyone on the anniversary of the Fund.
