7th meeting of the Working Group on improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS

On 23 and 24 June 2022, the 7th meeting of the Working Group on improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The meeting was organized with the financial support of the World Bank. The meeting was attended by the members of the Working Group from the founding states of IFAS, representatives of the Executive Committee of IFAS and its branches, structural subdivisions of ICWC and ICSD. This is the fourth meeting during the period of Tajikistan’s Chairmanship of IFAS.

Improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS is carried out in order to create an effective and sustainable institutional mechanism that is capable of responding to new challenges and solving existing environmental and socio-economic problems and issues of integrated use and protection of water resources in the region.

On the first day of the meeting, the Summary of agreements on the 1st stage of improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS, a report on the 2nd stage of improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS were presented and discussed, as well as options of institutional structure for improvement of IFAS, considering international practice were presented.

On the second day of the meeting, the mandates of the improved divisions of IFAS were discussed, as well as an overview of options for the institutional structure connected with the improvement of the mandates of the divisions of IFAS.

As a result of the meeting, the Final Document of the 7th meeting of the Working Group on improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS was agreed.
