On 22 September 2021, the Chairman of EC IFAS Mr. Sulton Rakhimzoda, made a presentation on the topic “Impact of climate change on water availability in Central Asia” at a high-level side event within the framework of the UNGA High-level Week entitled “How changing water availability from ice and snow will impact our societies.”
The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN in cooperation with the Permanent Missions of Hungary, Pakistan, Nepal and Russia to the UN, as well as the UN Office of Economic and Social Affairs, the UN Environment Program, the World Meteorological Organization, the UN Institute for Water Resources and UNESCO Intergovernmental Program on Hydrology within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 76th session of the UNGA. It was attended by representatives of 70 UN member states, as well as representatives of international organizations.
The event consisted of two panels, including a high-level panel and an expert panel, and covered topics on the impact of climate change, protecting glaciers from intense melting, and the relationship between climate and water resources.
