The Action Program to Assist the Countries of the Aral Sea Basin (ASBP-4)was approved by the decision of the IFAS Board on 29 of June 2021.
It was developed by the Executive Committee of IFAS together with the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination and the Interstate Commission for Sustainable Development with the involvement of national experts and international partners, in accordance with the decision of the Board of IFAS dated 30 of January 2018.
The program consists of four directions: (1) Integrated use of water resources, (2) Environmental, (3) Socio-economic development and (4) Improvement of institutional and legal mechanisms, and includes 34 projects of national and regional character.
The main goals of ASBP-4 are to improve living conditions and increase the well-being of people living in the Aral Sea basin, further expand and strengthen cooperation between Central Asian countries in improving the water management, ecological and socio-economic situation, rational use of water resources and adaptation to climate change. It is expected that the approved ASBP-4 will become a fundamental document both for the countries of the region and for donors and development partners, for the development and implementation of projects in the region. It will also be a guiding tool for the Executive Committee and other structural units of IFAS to work with the donor community to attract financial resources for its implementation.
