On 30 November 2023, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) started in Dubai (UAE). The conference will last until 12 December and aims to chart the way forward in the fight for a safe and healthy future for the planet in all respects. This is an annual large-scale meeting at the government level dedicated to developing a common climate strategy.
COP28 is an opportunity for the international community to take stock of how far the world has come in tackling the climate crisis and how much course correction is needed. The conference brings together world leaders, government representatives, development partners, scientists, academics, youth activists, journalists, representatives of indigenous communities and other stakeholders.
COP28 provides a unique platform to bring the world together, strengthen multilateral cooperation, restore trust and engagement at the highest levels, and accelerate action on climate change.
The delegation of the Executive Committee of IFAS actively participates in COP28. The Executive Committee of IFAS is the co-organizer of the “Water for Climate” pavilion, the opening ceremony of which took place on 1 December with the participation of Mr. Daler Juma Shofakir – Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, President of IFAS H.E. Emomali Rahmon, President of Slovenia H.E. Nataša Pirc Musar, Prince Jaime Bernardo of Bourbon-Parma on behalf of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands H.E. Mark Rutte, Mr. Hani Sewilam – Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt and other dignitaries.
The Water for Climate Pavilion was organized to raise global awareness of the importance of integrating water issues into the global climate agenda and strengthening water issues in the official COP28 outcome documents. As part of COP28, the Water for Climate Pavilion is organizing various events, meetings, and discussions to prioritize water and highlight its role in achieving climate resilience.
As part of COP28, the delegation of the Executive Committee of IFAS takes part in side events, thematic sessions, meetings and other events on various topics in the field of climate change adaptation, hydropower, strengthening regional cooperation in the field of water resources and the environment.
