The 7th EU-Central Asia High-Level Conference

The 7th EU-Central Asia High-Level Conference for Environment and Water Cooperation began its work on 23 February in Rome, Italy, four years after the previous event in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and will last two days. This Conference provides a platform for discussing new initiatives in the field of “green energy” and environmental protection and ways to implement them in the Central Asian region.

The conference is organized within the framework of the EU-CA Platform for Environment and Water Cooperation. The Conference is attended by representatives of the countries of Central Asia, the European Union and EU member states responsible for developing policies in the field of environment, climate change, and water resources, as well as regional and international experts.

The conference is aimed at presenting the results of the work of the EU-CA Platform for Environment and Water Cooperation and its Working Group on Environment and Climate Change, achieved since January 2019, identifying priority areas for the Platform’s activities for 2023-2025, discussing and agreeing on practical steps enhancing policy dialogue and capacity development on environment, climate change and water in Central Asia.

On the first day of the event, joint work is discussed to achieve the ambitious results of the UN 2023 Water Conference, which will be held on 22-24 March in New York, co-chaired by Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Opportunities are also being considered to contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, including SDG-6 and the achievement of the goals of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028, as well as improving the socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin and other basins Central Asia.

The main goal of this event is to strengthen cooperation between the EU and Central Asian countries and further stimulate cooperation between Central Asian countries within the region.Representatives of the Executive Committee of IFAS under the leadership of Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS, take part in the work of the 7th EU-CA High-Level Conference.
