From 17-19 January 2023 the 9th meeting of the Working Group on improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS was held online.
The meeting was organized by the Executive Committee of IFAS with the support of the CAWEP program of the World Bank. Members of the Working Group from IFAS State-founders, representatives of the Executive Committee of IFAS and its branches, structural subdivisions of ICWC and ICSD took part in the meeting, as well as representatives of the Kyrgyz Republic took part in the meeting as an observer.
Improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS is carried out in order to create an effective and sustainable institutional mechanism capable of responding to new challenges and solving existing water, energy, ecological and socio-economic problems and issues of integrated use and protection of water resources in the region.
On the first day of the meeting, presentations by country delegations on proposals on national structures of IFAS and international practice on national structures of joint mechanisms were heard, and optimal options for determining the national executive bodies of IFAS in countries were discussed.
On the second day of the meeting, the number of Commissions and departments in the Executive Committee, SIC, and the improved institutional structures were discussed. On the third day of the meeting, the Working Group heard and discussed the presentation of the fundamental financial mechanism of the improved institutional framework, presented by Ms. Farzona Mukhitdinova, Senior Water Management Specialist of the World Bank.
As a result of the meeting, the Outcome Document of the 9th meeting of the Working Group on improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS will be adopted.
