On the extension of the chairmanship of Tajikistan in IFAS

Today, on 21 July 2022, in Cholpon Ata, Kyrgyz Republic, as part of the Fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia, the Decision of the Heads of the State-Founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea was signed to extend the mandate of the President of IFAS, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, for one year.

It should be noted that the decision on the chairmanship of Tajikistan in IFAS for 2020-2022 was made on 29 November 2019 as part of the Second Consultative Meeting of the Heads of the IFAS State-Founders in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, where the Founder of Peace and National Unity- Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon was elected as the President of IFAS.

In order to ensure the work of IFAS at the proper level during the chairmanship of Tajikistan, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan adopted a relevant resolution. In connection with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Executive Committee of IFAS began its work in Tajikistan in October 2020.

The fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia was attended by the Presidents of the Republic of Tajikistan – H.E. Emomali Rahmon, the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Kyrgyz Republic – H.E. Sadyr Japarov, the Republic of Uzbekistan – H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Turkmenistan – H.E. Serdar Berdimuhamedow.

The meeting also discussed topical issues of strengthening interaction between the states of Central Asia in jointly responding to challenges and threats to regional security, prospects for expanding cooperation in order to ensure sustainable economic growth of states, and the potential for good neighborly and friendly relations in the region.

As a result of the meeting, the Joint Statement of the Heads of State, the Roadmap for the Development of Regional Cooperation for 2022-2024, the Concept of Interaction between the States of Central Asia within the framework of multilateral formats and the Regional Program “Green Agenda” for Central Asia were adopted.

The Heads of States also supported the proposal of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, to hold the Fifth Anniversary Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia on 14-15 September 2023 in Dushanbe, which will be held simultaneously with the regular meeting of the Council of the Heads of the State-Founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
