Participation of the Chairman of EC IFAS at the High-Level Panel: “Transboundary aquifers in the International High-Level Agenda”

On the 7th of December 2021, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda, participated in the High-Level Panel: “Transboundary aquifers in the International High-Level Agenda”, in the framework of the Second International Conference UNESCO on Transboundary Aquifers (ISARM2021).

Sulton Rahimzoda noted the important role of groundwater resources when there is a sharp decline in the availability of surface water per capita in Central Asia. If in the 60s the water supply per capita per year was 8.4 thousand m3, today it is less than 2.0 thousand m3.In this situation, along with the efficient use of water resources, the use of the untapped potential of groundwater resources can play an important role in meeting the growing demand for water in the region.

Sulton Rahimzoda also noted the holding of the second International Water Decade Conference in June 2022 in Dushanbe, and in March 2023 in the New York UN Conference on the Mid-Term Review of the Implementation of the Water Decade, which will also consider the use of groundwater, as part of integrated water resources management and transboundary water cooperation.ISARM2021 is an important milestone in advancing knowledge about groundwater and its usage.

More than 200 experts from all over the world took part in the current event.
