Third Climate meeting of MFA representatives and parliamentarians of Сentral Asian countries

On 17 March 2021, the third Meeting of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and parliamentarians of the Central Asian countries on climate change was held online.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and exchange views between the countries of Central Asia on topical issues of the implementation of the Paris Agreement in terms of legislation and strategic planning, as well as the participation of the region in the international negotiation process.

The Chairman of EC IFAS, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda in his speech at the opening ceremony of the meeting noted the importance of this platform for expanding regional dialogue on climate change issues, sharing knowledge, lessons, and practices. Also he noted the opportunities for cooperation in the implementation of climate change measures in the countries of Central Asia were indicated. He also pointed out the timeliness of the initiative of the President of Republic of Tajikistan, the President of IFAS, H.E Emomali Rahmon regarding the announcement of 2025 as the International Year for the Preservation of Glaciers and the determination of the date for the celebration of World Glacier Day, which was announced during the first meeting of the Water and Climate Leaders.

It was emphasized that taking into account the importance of the topic under discussion for all countries of the region, the issue of climate change was identified as a priority on the agenda of the Executive Committee of IFAS during the chairmanship of Tajikistan in the Fund.
