Special session of the Executive Committee of IFAS within the framework of the 9th World Water Forum

On 24 March 2022 in Dakar, Senegal, within the framework of the 9th World Water Forum, the Executive Committee of IFAS held a special session entitled “Cooperation of the Central Asian countries to ensure Water Security in the context of climate change”.

The purpose of organizing this session was to attract the attention of the world community, international development partners, academia, civil society and the private sector to the problems of the Aral Sea basin and their solution, presenting the vision of the Central Asian countries on the priorities of the 9th WWF, presentation of the Action Program for assistance countries of the Aral Sea Basin (ASBP-4) in order to attract the attention of donor countries, as well as international partners to its implementation, as well as the exchange of views and experience on addressing issues related to water security.

The session consisted of two parts:

– panel discussion with the participation of ministers and heads of water management and environmental ministries and departments of the Central Asian states;

– panel discussion with representatives of donor countries, development partners and other stakeholders

The session was attended by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Daler Juma, the Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Shavkat Khamraev, the Vice Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Kozhaniyazov Serik Salavatovich (video message) , Chairman of the State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan Mr. Guzgeldy Baijanov (video message ), Director of the World Bank Group’s Global Water Practice Ms. Jennifer Sarah, and Special Envoy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for Water Affairs Mr. Henk Ovink and SDC Special Envoy for Water Mr. Guy Bonvin.

The session was attended by heads and representatives of water management and environmental authorities of Central Asian countries, representatives of various development partners, the World Water Council, the Secretariat of the 9th World Water Forum, international and regional organizations, NGOs, civil society, scientists, experts and other interested stakeholders.
